Art Of Candy Making: Three Important Things To Remember!
May 29, 2010 by Clara S. Morgan
Candies are basically prepared by dissolving an amount sugar in water or milk so as to form syrup after which you will start boiling to achieve a caramelized mixture. The end product would depend to the end result of the whole process undergone by the solvent. It can be any of the following: candy, caramel, toffee, fudge, praline, tablet or taffy.
Candy making is considered as an art just by looking at its end product. It takes a person’s natural imagination and creativity to come up with such totally enticing and cute colors, shapes and designs of candies. Just like every art, there are three important things to remember in making candies. Let me give you a run down here:
1. The richer the milk the better will be the candy.
Milk is the secret in obtaining a particular flavor and consistency of candies. Always remember to choose rich milk so as to achieve a good if not best tasting candy. But skim milk is actually accepted though it depends on how much of it will you use to achieve that richness needed. If you have enough expenses, you can use cream as it usually brings about the most delicious type of candy.
2. Use cocoa or chocolate for coating.
Though chocolate is considerably preferred because it has richer and deeper flavor than cocoa, you can actually use any of the two for coating. Some would also use crystallized fruits or flowers. All of which are both good for coating and flavor.
3. Utilize colorings to attract and inform.
Candy colorings are not just used for the sake of art. It is actually a strategic marketing move. A particular candy color often symbolizes the candy’s flavor and most importantly it entices clients to buy them right away.
There you go those are just some of the many things you need to remember and apply while making candy. For sure you will have a delicious candy. Always keep this as a mantra in making candies: “Make delicious and mouth-watering candies for all generations to like!” I guess that mantra is every candy makers’ principle towards candy making.

Who doesn’t love candies? Just the picture and the sound of its name could already bring yummy thoughts to our minds. Candy has always been everybody’s favorite. That makes it a staple source of delight in every celebration. Notice how they pump up our Christmas decorations and how they serve well as welcome gifts. That in itself is a living testimony of how well-loved this sweet little thing called candy is throughout the ages.
Candy making is quite an easy and simple process. Common recipes for candy would normally include the following steps: dissolve sugar in water, boil the mixture until it becomes thick and then put it in utensils of different shapes according to your desire. If you want something different you can also use milk instead of water. That way you can give a twist of flavor in your homemade candy.
Most of the time, the ingredients used and the boiling time of the mixture determine the candy’s taste and look. As you can see in the market nowadays, candies have different textures. They can be soft, hard, chewy or brittle in texture. Candy recipes also have various categories such as boiled, confection, fudge, praline, truffle, hard, caramel, brittle, prickle and others. If you are the imaginative and creative type, you can even make your own personalized homemade recipe and get different flavors and colors.
On the other hand, when it comes to ingredients used in candy making, the most common ingredients used include: sugar, milk, water, chocolates, nuts and the likes. Candy flavors also vary some of which are: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, butterscotch and a whole lot more. However, grandmother candy recipes remain to be interestingly popular among all of them.
These grandmother candy recipes include: peanut brittle, chocolate fudge, peanut butter, taffy, Halloween candy, praline and more. These types of candy recipes are affordable and very tasty. Some other recipes available are: candy bars, rock, sucking, cotton candy, candy canes and others. They also come in several flavors and shapes which are all appealing.
As what you have read, there are plenty of candies to choose from. You can either choose the best according to your preference or simply try them all. Who cares about too much sugar and damaged teeth? Sometimes it is also fun to enjoy the greatest pleasures of the world and candy is just one of them.

Chocolate Candy is undeniably one of the greatest southern homemade treats. Imagine smelling its sweet aroma while entering your house. The warmth it brings to the kitchen and the sight of bubbling candy stirred by the cook itself.
Well, no need to just imagine it for you are about to experience that for yourself. As you will be getting the best chocolate candy recipe that you can try in your own kitchen. Here it goes:
Ingredients:
3 cups of sugar
1/2 cup of cocoa
1-1/2 cups of milk
1 stick of butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Procedures:
1. Combine all dry ingredients.
2. Gradually add milk until it is well blended.
3. Cook over medium-high heat until the candy reaches the soft ball stage.
4. Remove it from heat then add butter and vanilla and stir until the candy stiffens.
5. You can add a half cup of pecans. Make sure to add them in before the candy gets too firm.
6. Pour the candy onto a well-buttered platter.
7. Let the chocolate candy harden before eating.
I know for sure that you will need few tips on candy making. Here are some helpful tips on candy making:
1. Don’t make candies on rainy days. For high humidity does not allow the candy to harden. The candy might still taste good but it will surely be sticky. Sticky candies are not that fun to eat, right?
2. Use cooking vessels which are heavy and of good quality. For your information, cheap pots don’t heat evenly which often result to an inconsistent final product. I recommend Copper bottom pots for they are particularly good.
3. Cook candy at an exact and appropriate heat. Remember, if you are stirring the praline mixture, keep the temperature high. Once the candy starts to bubble you, reduce the heat to medium. Let it cook a bit but you still need to stir it frequently.
4. Use a candy thermometer as it will help distinguish whether or not the candy is ready to take off the heat.
So, enjoy a fun chocolate candy making in the comforts of your kitchen and start sharing the delicious chocolate candies with your family, friends and neighbors. With these simple candy making recipe and tips, you are about to start a cooking hobby. Something that will help you learn and love cooking.

Everybody loves chocolate and that’s a fact. They literally taste like heaven and they are offered in various shapes and forms. These qualities definitely make them adorable to all ages, both children and adults.
Chocolates are great gifts especially for kids. You can purchase kid inspired chocolate candies in the market and hand them to your kids. Then, watch them enjoy every bit of these chocolate candies. Who says only kids love chocolates? Adults also find them really delicious.
As you know, chocolates are staple gifts for lovers and friends. I think every man has tried the magic of offering chocolate candies romantically wrapped as gift for their sweethearts. I must say, ladies are more obsessed of chocolate candies than children.
What sets chocolate candies apart from chocolate bars? Aside from the shape, chocolate candies are probably more convenient to eat. You don’t have to mess your face, you only have to pop the chocolate candy to your mouth and enjoy its heavenly taste.
They are also great gifts for all seasons, occasions or holidays. May it be children’s party, birthday party, family gathering, Halloween, Christmas, Easter Sunday or Valentine’s Day. It is a wonderful gift for it appeals to all ages. Moreover, it comes in different designs and packages which are creative enough that you don’t have to waste money and time wrapping it.
Chocolate candies are also great snacks. If you are running out of time to cook, just grab few chocolate candies and enjoy eating it as snack. They are also great munchies whenever you needed something to eat. Good enough to regain energy and boost your mood. You can either keep it in a candy jar next to your desk in your office or just inside your refrigerator at home.
So, I suggest the next time you go to the grocery grab some chocolate candy boxes. You will never know when you need them. If worst comes to worst, get chocolate candies to save the day! It is always great to have them within your reach so as to readily get them when situations call for it.

Setting the Stage for Cinco de Mayo Parties
April 13, 2010 by Christine Szalay-Kudra
As you plan your menu for your upcoming Cinco de Mayo party, do not overlook desserts. You can serve some fabulous treats in keeping with all the other efforts you have put forth for this special day. One of the last things your guests will taste at your party will be dessert, so use these tips to make them extra special and memorable.
Making the Selection
Luckily, many desserts can be made the day before your party. If you want to make something truly memorable such as a Tres Leches cake, it definitely needs the time to set before you serve it. Choose a couple different desserts. A nice complement to the creamy, cool Tres Leches cake is a dessert combining chocolate and chilies. It may sound unusual, but these two flavors create a flavor sensation.
Take the time to do the dessert the right way. While everyone loves a decadent dessert, you may also want to make sure you provide a lighter alternative. A fruit flan or sorbet may be just the perfect way to top off the evening for some of your guests.
Presentation
Besides providing delicious food, you need to present them in an attractive way. Bright colors are one of the signatures of Mexico. They do not bother with pale pastels or dreary earth tones. Dress your table in a bright tablecloth. You can use one of the colors of the Mexican flag if you wish, or choose another bright color that sets off your dishes. Napkins can be set out in white, green and red; the colors of the flag.
Do you have any tropical houseplants? If you do, borrow a leaf or two to let out on the table. Palm fronds or leaves from a tree philodendron look especially tropical and exotic. Lay a couple on top of the tablecloth and set your dishes on top of them so they peek out from below. Use colorful platters for your main dishes.
For your centerpiece, try using exotic fruit and peppers. Use foliage to set them off perfectly. Flowers are beautiful, but they can steal the show. Put your desserts on bright colored dishes. Since Tres Leches is pale in color, use a dark plate to really set it off. Accent it with some edible flowers that are either fresh or candied. Setting chocolate desserts on colorful plates will make it look even richer than before.
The Overall Effect
There should be a lot of color at Cinco de Mayo parties. Mexico is colorful and vibrant and you should strive to achieve that for your party. When your guests walk through your door, your presentation will be the first impression, they have and can set the whole mood for the evening. The simplest dish of salsa or cake should look sumptuous and delicious.
Of course, once you have your home decorated and the food prepared, do not forget to dress up. The Mexican people enjoy dressing for the occasion, so why should you be any different? Choose a vivid outfit that will make you feel wonderful when you wear it.
All that is left is for your guests to arrive. The food is ready. The mood is set. All you need to do is smile and welcome your guests.
If you think Mexican recipes will only help you make tacos and burritos, you have got a big surprise waiting. You can explore the amazing world of Mexican cuisine. Get ready to enjoy dishes like Veracruz Red Snapper, Fruit Chimichangas, and Tortilla Soup. Yum!
Make Your Cinco de Mayo Food Sparkle

Planning your Cinco de Mayo celebration should be fun and exciting. Trying to come up with unusual or exotic dishes to complement old favorites is one of the best parts. You can really have fun when it comes to desserts.
Cold desserts are a favorite during this warm time of the year. Sure, you can make some ice cream flavored with mango or coconut, but what about a granita? Have you ever tried one? They are simple to make and you can flavor them with luscious exotic tastes like hibiscus. The hibiscus also gives the granita a bright pink color that fits right into the colorful decorations for Cinco de Mayo.
If you cannot resist serving ice cream, top it off with a Mexican chocolate sauce that has cinnamon or chipotle added to it for a little kick. Chocolate tempers spicy heat, so you are left with a gentle warming of the mouth, which contrasts nicely with the coolness of the ice cream. If this does not make your party memorable, nothing will.
Maybe your preferences run to the classic; cake is down to earth and easy to make. The classic Tres Leches is impressive to serve. The richness of the cake comes from the three different types of milk. Served chilled, it truly is a little slice of heaven. For real simplicity, bake chocolate cupcakes with added chipotle and cinnamon. One bite is all it takes to convert you to this amazing confection.
If you want real sparkle in your Mexican menu, prepare capirotada. Every culture has its version of bread pudding and this is the entry from Mexico. Made with two different cheeses, pecans and raisins, this dessert is sure to earn you high marks. Throw a dollop of whip cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg on top and let your guests dig in.
Other authentic Mexican desserts to consider include empanadas filled with fruit and cream, sweet tamales filled with almonds and fruit, and churros, which can be served with a hot cup of Mexican chocolate to drink. We know so little of the delicious Mexican desserts here in the United States… why not use your Cinco de Mayo party to explore some of these delectable delights?
As you decide what Cinco de Mayo food to serve, go ahead and use as many hot, spicy foods as you wish. Just be sure to add that sparkle to the party with some sweet delicious treats from south of the border. Try new recipes that will make your guests gaze at you, completely awestruck. Your efforts will be appreciated.
No matter how you start the meal, you always want to end on a high note. Sometimes it is paramount to save your best for last. A sweet and savory dish can give you that “wow” factor. The dessert flans are good, but just remember to kick it up a notch. When you put it all on the line with decorations and a fantastic meal, you need to finish with that incredible dessert.
No one does dessert like they do in Mexican cuisine, and it is about time we realized what wonderful dishes they are. Let them inspire you to achieve the next level of culinary greatness at your party on the 5th of May.
If you are looking for a new Mexican food recipe, why not try one that has survived for many generations like picadillo? This dish is a mixture of beef, onion, garlic, jalapenos, tomatoes, olives, raisins, green peppers, cumin, cloves, brown sugar, and potatoes. Serve it alone or as taco filling.
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo with Dessert
April 11, 2010 by Christine Szalay-Kudra
As spring rolls into full swing, the calendar points out that we are approaching Cinco de Mayo. More and more people are starting to celebrate this Mexican holiday, so it is best to start preparing early. Many people use this day to enjoy Mexican culture and cuisine. It is a great excuse to dig into some excellent food!
Most people out there will have a basic idea of what they will cook as the main course. They might like burritos and flautas best, or maybe they will make some chicken enchiladas. Dessert, however, can be harder to settle on. Most people do not know much about Mexican desserts, so planning a very special holiday meal is a good way to discover some of the sweeter dishes from our friends to the South.
Banana quesadillas are a great dessert. They are light and fruity… the perfect complement to any meal. If you really want to go for authentic Mexican cuisine try plantains, they resemble bananas, but plantains need to be cooked to be tasty. They can be delicious if prepared correctly. Make sure you look up a good recipe.
Creamy, dreamy dessert are loved the world over, and Mexico is no exception. Latin America is known for its spiciness and a flan is a great way to temper the heat. Flan is a cool, creamy, and sweet traditional dessert topped with luscious caramel sauce. Another mouthwatering adventure is fried ice cream. Everyone in the house will scream for this dessert again and again. Ice cream is rolled into balls and then coated in thin dough that is quickly deep-fried and served immediately while still crisp. Throw on some cinnamon sugar and enjoy the show as they fracture the crust and discover the creamy ice cream in the middle. Dessert does not get much better than this… nor does it?
Chocolate is native to Mexico. You can make some scrumptious chocolate brownies with a touch of chipotle added. Your family will not know how you made these brownies extra delicious, but you will. When chocolate is paired with something spicy like peppers, they meld together to create a fantastic eating experience. Another idea would be to make a delightful Mexican chocolate sauce. Serve it over fresh coconut ice cream for a flavor combination your whole family will love.
Now that you have decided on some desserts, you can return to planning the rest of the party. Are friends coming over to sample your delicious meal with some refreshing Mexican beer? Will you be decorating the house or just serving refreshments?
Cinco de Mayo is a great holiday to focus on Mexican culture and have a good time while you do it. It does not occur at the same time as other well-known holidays, like Halloween coincides with the Day of the Dead. You can just indulge yourself and immerse yourself in all things Mexican on the fifth of May.
Go ahead and add this holiday to your family traditions. You will be able to teach your children about Mexican culture and you will all enjoy some fabulous Mexican food. Make a pitcher of sangria and enjoy the spring weather with the exotic flavors of Mexico.
There are lots of activities for Cinco de Mayo that you can prepare for your kids. Print out Mexican-themed coloring pages, have them make small, individual piatas using balloons, papier mache and tissue paper, and so on. You can even have them dress up in sombreros and colorful clothing.
